Wild Mushrooms

  • Resources

The Alberta Mycological Society has developed an EDUCATIONAL POSTER (pdf 251 k) about our provincial mushroom, Leccinum boreale, which we hope will become Alberta’s next official provincial emblem. We have also developed a BOOKMARK (pdf 27 k) that highlights this mushroom. This poster and bookmarks were developed with partial funding by grants from the Alberta Conservation […]

  • AMS Forum: Calgary Mushroom season is on! (2/2)

I have recently moved back to Calgary to the Dalhousie neighbourhood and am brand new to the AMS and mushroom IDing. I would like to connect with local folks and get a chance to go on local forays with them. Any tips on local NW Calgary locations for finding mushrooms would be much appreciated. I […]

  • AMS Forum: Edmonton Wednesday Foray (1/1)

Hi Erica, I live on Ellerslie Rd, about 25 minutes to the site. I’d love a ride! This is my first foray. I can also drive but have a tiny car so can only take 1 passenger but it’s really easy to park if there’s limited space.

  • AMS Forum: looks like chicken of the woods but with gills (1/1)

Chicken of the woods is a laetiporus which is a polypore, so those do not have gills. Your mushroom does. Your picture does not show the Orange colour, if they are orange they could be phyllotopsis nidulans, the stinky oyster. Which are only stinky in warm weather. What I think you have is a Lentinellus, […]

  • Projects

The Alberta Mycological Society initiated several major projects in 2004, which are designed to bring attention to the diversity and roles of fungi in our ecosystems to the public. These projects are ongoing and are financially supported by the Alberta Mycological Society and grants from non-governmental organizations and provincial government departments. PICK A WILD MUSHROOM, […]
