AMS Forum: One more bolete to ID (1/1)
Kind of looks like a king, but not with the fat stalk of the European version. The reticulation on on the stem suggests that as well as the flesh remaining white, but only in one of your photos. Could you have two different ones? The » must» and maybe some of the colouring on the […]
AMS Forum: Angel Wings (pleurocybella porrigens) — Inquiry (1/1)
Great! Thanks so much for the info Martin! …much appreciated! I had read about the Hemlock and came across one source that said a variety of conifers so I wasn’t sure about it showing up in Alberta — I am very glad to hear you haven’t come across one in your many years of experience! […]
AMS Forum: Identification (1/1)
Lucky you! It is a large puffball. Although with that large base I’d say it’s likely not our typical giant puffball Calvatia gigantia; I keyed it out to a relative Calvatia bovista. All edible and good provided that it is still nice and white and not turning yellow or green,
AMS Forum: Lawn Mushroom ID Help Please (1/1)
Found these in a couple of shady areas of lawn. Spore print cream to buff. Smooth, leathery cap, becoming wavy at edges as it matures. Gills seem to hold water but not dripping. Slightly waxy but not experienced with this quality. Thanks for any help in ID’ing!

AMS Forum: Mushroom ID Help! (1/1)
Nice array of fungi, but if you want help identifying them post on at a time. The big single one is probably leucaopaxillus giganteus. but also would need something to properly reference the size, like a tape measure.
AMS Forum: Is this Fuligo septica? (1/1)
Apologies for not sending more information. Only had what it looked like on inside (brown powdery mass; possible spores??) as underside obscured by rotting wood. No discernable odor, even after sitting on my dining room table in wax paper for a couple days.
AMS Forum: ID Request (1/1)
This can be both easy or hard. It is a waxy cap, probably a witches cap… Real species name? Is the cap and stem slimy, or just the cap. Does it bruise black? What is the flesh colour. These are all questions that can’t be answered by photo alone, which s often the case with […]
